With a proper film of oil the two surfaces should never meet :)

Remember that crankshaft is soft and insert bearings are designed to be run on harder crank journals. The original babbited bearings material was a soft material, new babbit bearings are a hard material . R

I finally got the 8-105 engine apart and in fact it did have insert bearings instead of babbitts. I have been searching for conversion part numbers for a while with no success so I figured I would share what I found in my engine in case anyone is considering a swap in the future

The mains were Clevite CB526P .020 and it appears the last builder kept the old babbitt insert and machined it to accept the CB526P (I believe these are out of an Allis Chalmers tractor)

The rods looked like they were machined out to accepts a Clevite CB90P .020 (I believe these are out of a Chrysler 6 cylinder truck)
