I saw that car at Auburn, curious as to what it sold for. (no need to make it public)
I especially liked the 'chrome' spokes <!-- s:o --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_surprised.gif" alt=":o" title="Surprised" /><!-- s:o -->

Cool, thanks! That is a help.

It seems my 1933 Salon may have been some what of a transition year or something. So far compared to my 31 my 33 has hydraulic brakes, different steering box and a 8-105 rather than an 8-101 which I think would have been normal for a 33 to come with.

I am also trying to get to figure out if the 33 would have had a bolt on wire wheel option. I have to look at my axle next to see if it is 33, are there numbers or indicators I should look for on the axle?

hmmm, so the next question is the engine a 33 or later with a number of GC236 or did the intakes fit both?

That is a 34-36 intake and very likely exhaust manifold.
The carburetor is not Auburn. Attached, is a correct EE1; EXCEPT when they were delivered from Bendix they were New Jersey yellow zinc di-chromate.

No attachment because it received a HTTP error. Tom is working on it !

Here are a few more detailed images. The engine says GC236 and the intake has a G3600G and the exhaust had G240CA number. The carb has a number of SP 10.

I have better pictures up at this link: 505hp.com/1933-auburn/

The downdraft carb setup on this car is consistent with 34-36 rather than 33 salon as salon 8's used an EX32 single barrel downdraft carb.

If you can post the numbers for the car and a photo of the frame under the engine I can tell you more. The downdraft carb setup was new to the Salon models in 1933 so that supports it being an 8-105 vs an 8-101. But that could also easily have been swapped. The frame photo and numbers would tell us for sure.

Looking at the number stamped on the top of your steering box (670381), the Auburn parts book shows that box being used on a 8-101 or 8-105 car. Beautiful car! Dave

OK, I just took a picture from our 31 to compare to the 33 and they do look a little different but very similar.

This is the box from our 31

Those are 34-36 eight cylinder manifolds aren't they? The carb appears to be a Ford 97 I might be wrong here, my expertise doesn't lie in 31-33.

This is a re-body and it still has all of the metal fenders and just the body and doors are fiberglass. I have been trying to figure out what it was before the re-body :) It was advertised as a 8-101 but it is a Salon body and it has bolt on wheels and hydraulic brakes.

So does this box appear to be a Salon style box? What years would be compatible?

Eigh Pete, aren't they all Ross boxes 31-36 ( maybe earlier ) ??&quot; The parts are not interchangeable but the sequence of adjustment is the same.

There are very few interchangeable steering box parts 31-33 to 34-36. However they do adjust the same.

I have some extra Auburn steering boxes and parts (not sure of the vintage)
but if you need some pieces, send me a message. (Removing the steering assembly can be a challenge, I believe)

33 Steering Box was created by curtiss
I am in the process of buying a 33 Auburn Speedster re-body and one issue it has is the steering box has a lot of play in it and you have to turn the wheel a lot before the wheels start to turn.

Any ideas on the symptom I am describing or if anyone has a replacement box, used box or parts available?

Thanks,
