Hi Dave and Randy, Thank you for your patience. I have located a number in the position that Dave suggested see
www.dropbox.com/home/Auburn%20Serial%20No
The dilemma is that it does not match the paper trail (Bill of sale, bill of entry, import permit, title, and footboard plate)and would imply a later frame? Your advice would be appreciated.
with thanks
Richard

I believe you need to be looking about ten inches forward of that bracket in your pictures. Dave

Thank you Randy,
Nothing seen in that area with the original paint on.

I decided to strip the paint from the area with paint stripper but still nothing seen.

The number or abridged part I am looking for is 2974092

RICHARD .The frame number is some where in the vicinity of the right drive steering gear holes in the right frame rail. If I am not mistaken your frame number is 2972092 and the stampings in the frame will be an abbreviated version of that. Randy

Location of 8-90 stamped frame number was created by erigid
Good day Gentlemen, I cannot find the number stamped on the frame of my 1929 8-90. I have cleaned the paint off from the outside vertical face of the front spring hanger from the front of the shock absorber (Damper) all around the 4 rivets that fix the tubular cross member to the cast bracket at the front of the frame, but no joy. The frame is not corroded so the number should be clearly visible. Is there any other possible location for the number or is it repeated anywhere other than on the plate on the footboard inside the body?
with thanks, Richard
