I followed Greg's advice and have had no further problem to date. If problem recurs I agree that a trip to Fremont would be a good idea. MA

John has retired but the information and expertise is still at Fremont Auto. Ask for Tom or Jason, they will be able to help you.

Seems like John has isn't working at Fremont anymore.

Has anyone dealt with Fremont recently ?

Great ! thanks a lot. Will also ask Felix.

In the meantime I found this chart with valuable info about fan lubrication - it seems that since "excess oil" needs to be drained..maybe just keeping a small amount of oil at the bottom of the hub will suffice.

Fremont did the fan hub modification for me on my 1931 Auburn back in May. I talked with Jason in the shop and they did a great job and I had it back in about a week. I also had them re-line my brake shoes and they did a great job.

If you want an original one, I also contacted Felix at ACD factory and he said they had a bin with some originals.

Thank you all for the replies

I did read about the Fremont parts mod and that's probably the way I will have it done eventually.

I was just trying to enjoy driving the car this summer and fall without wasting time with the car needed fixes like it did all last winter.

Will give these guys a call and ask what the turnaround time they have on this mod.

I cannot find any reasons why stuffing the hub with a light grease would be any worse than dripping oil - as a temporary fix at least.

Mine did the same thing from the time I acquired it. Greg is correct on the suggested procedure for filling it. I personally figured that a little oil leaking out was preferable, so I filled mine in the 12 o'clock position until I noticed a drip in back of the pulley. Worked fine for many years. I agree with Mike that there's no reason to change old technology that's working. However, when I began to notice some play a few years back, I bit the bullet and had Fremont Auto Parts modify my hub. You have no play, I say keep oiling and roll with it .

Don't know for a fact that it does or doesn't get a seal, but in taking mine apart to ship, I didn't notice one.

try adding oil then turn hub to the 9 0clock

John Forsythe at fremont auto parts makes a
conversion with sealed bearings
cant be detected and solves the problem
I have several thousand miles on mine

I would suggest fixing the leak, not changing lub. I converted the seal on my L-29 with a lip seal. Maybe that could be done with your 32 Auburn.

Radiator Fan lubrication was created by Auburn
My 1932 Auburn 8-100A Radiator fan is leaking oil from the front, where the blades attach to the hub, once the engine is running, and also from the back too if oil level reaches the shaft.

Fan is turning fine with no play yet.

Whats the consensus on lubrication ? do you just top it with light oil from time to time ?

I am considering just filling the hub with a light no1 grease instead of oil, and be done for a while.
