I think all numbers were black rather than body colour...I might be wrong. But as I'm going to pain the car black and red the numbers will stay black.
I should be able to post more updates soon...I need to chase Larry to see where he is with the project.
Cheers

Yes the car behind mine is indeed a speedster...I can't remember if it's a 28 or 29 car, but I'll find out for you when I next see the car.

THANK YOU FOR THE MARVELOUS POSTINGS YOU CONTINUE TO MAKE TO THIS THREAD ON THE AUBURN CABRIOLET RESTORATION WHICH YOU HAVE UNDERTAKEN. WE ARE ALL VICARIOUSLY ENJOYING SEEING YOUR CONSIDERABLE PROGRESS AND THE CRAFTSMANSHIP EMPLOYED. I AM INTRIQUED BY THE VEHICLE SITTING BEHIND YOUR CABRIOLET IN THE REPAIR GARAGE. IT APPEARS TO BE ANOTHER AUBURN OF SIMILAR VINTAGE AND IN RATHER DECENT CONDITION. FROM THE PHOTO IMAGES IT IS DIFFICULT TO BE SURE BUT IS IT A SPEEDSTER MODEL? THANKS FOR SATISFYING MY CURIOSITY. We are still missing 2 atillery wheels to be used as spares in the fenders, so if you have any or know of any please let me know.
I'll be getting a quote on the engine rebuild this week...
We are going to have to order more wood this week too, the wooden top template is almost done, so now it's time for the final wood to be cut and fitted.

I saw the colour on a 29 Speedster he has in his shop, it looked good on the car.

I also checked the color combination by photo shop. Black-Red is a tough combination. I made some sample doors and fenders frome the bone yard. You will be surprised about the difference between a small sample and a complete panel. Finally I did go for a kind of brown-red, because the first choice "carmin red" was far too bright. Keep in mind, the colors were much more decent those days.
Keep us posted.

With the top frame hinge, is the chrome nut on the outside or the inside?, see the photos below. Do any of you have any photos of this top hinge?
For me, it looks like it should be on the outside as the bend in the arm looks like it should avoid the wood...in the other photo it looks too tight, but that's only because we are testing it at the moment and nothing is fixture perminantly yet...still lots of adjustments going on.
...here is the original section the top arm/hinge bolts too, but we don't know if there is anything missing as this is all that was on the car...
...and here is a photo from the other side of the car

We've had to replace some of the rotten wood, it's a shame all of this work will be covered once the sheet metal is on the body.
It was around this that I started to think of paint...
...and started playing with photoshop a little and ended up with a red & black combination
The wheel were the first colour test
So now it was back to more work on the body, the more we dug the more needed replacing...but we are almost there
With the help and patience of Neal Ziff we were able to look at his car, take measurements and generally use it as a source of reference during the restoration of my car...
I'm going down to see the car in the morning and will post some fresh photos soon, but for now here are two of the latest photos showing work to the top structure...it finally has a convertible top frame again...
Thanks
Peter

The two tone green leatherette or vinyl was taken from behind the front seat and under where the convertible top folds down.
So as the car was a green car, the leather looks like it was green too...was this standard? I only ask as I've only seen brown on a green car.
Cheers

the chassis number should be at the very front frame horn where the spring attaches. this is where the number was for my 1930 8-125 and we also certified a few 1930 models with the numbers there also.

But I'll send him an email tonight to see if I can find more details, even to see if he has a copy of the old title....
I'm still trying to make my mind up if I should stay with the original two tone green or go with a period color combination...
Thanks

The chassis is all done and painted and recently he's been replacing the rotten wood with new wood, then we'll get around the the metal work...
I hope to have a fresh update soon.

great project and nice pictures. Keep us posted.
I am shure some of the fellows will be able to tell you more about the colors.
First you will have to achieve some space around the car in your great work shop, just to work at the car <!-- s:wink: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt="" title="Wink" /><!-- s:wink: -->

I'm told the VIN number (GR22157) and engine number are the same, on the wooden floor there is the number X-7534, if this is of interest to anyone, or maybe you can help me decode the car that would be great.
Does anyone know of a color chart or correct color spec for a 1930 Auburn? We've discovered that under all the red and black paint the original color seems to be a light green and a bright green stripe on the door.
I've been told it might be 'Cat's Eye Green' and 'Cat's Eye Gray' but they seem to be 1929 colors not 1930 colors...can anyone help in my search?
I found an old poster on ebay that seems to be a similar color, but with a darker green stripe on the door and a brown interior...
Even though mine has very little in the way of an interior, I still have enough to see that it had light green leather door panels and the same color leather for the tool pouch...at first I thought the color might be faded over the years, but some of the leather that hasn't seen the light of day is still pale green...were there other interior colors to these cars besides brown or black?
We still have a long way to go, but I hope to have it back on the road in the next few years...
Thanks in advance for any help
Peter
