The valves are re-adjusted, and seem to be fine now. I did the ad. last year after the valve job with no grief, but apparently had a mental episode this year!

The brake shoes are relined back and on the car. I hope to be finishing that job up in the next day or so.

See you all in Auburn!!

Mike,

Have you re-done the valve adjustment yet? How did it work out? Getting everything ready for Auburn!?!

Mike-

Set your valves at .008 and .010 cold and you'll be ok. Not too tight nor too noisy.

Mike,

The service manual I have for the 898 and 898A suggests the valve clearance be set at .006 to .008 for both valves and measured "warm". After getting the engine warm/hot, you might just check several of the intakes and exhausts to see where they are now. Knowing what you set them to in a cold engine could allow you to calculate some ratio. Then you could readjust (cold) the intake or exhaust valves again, based on that info and the ratio to get to where you want to be when the engine is hot / warm. At least that way you don't have to rush to get them all done while the engine is still hot (what ever that is!!), or be trying to do all of the adjustments around the hot manifold.

What should I use as clearance to adjust my valves "cold" ? The numbers are .006 intake /.008 exhaust hot. I'd prefer not to do it hot, for obvious reasons. I just adjusted them all to .010, and they sound much too loose. Maybe .008 intake and .010 exhaust?

Thanks guys,

Mike
